If Things Were Different...

Let's get real. Under a different election system, the likes of Abdullah Badawi and his son-in-law Khairy will not make it anywhere near the national level.
They'd be rejected BIG time way before the buzz starts.
For as long as Malaysia practices the present system of electing its state and parliamentary representatives, people like Abdullah and other unbelievably horrid representatives of the people will continue to "serve".
Corrupt leaders will continue to get the votes of their needy and grateful constituents.
I'm sorry, Malaysia.
It's up to you to change things...

Eva,
How true. Maybe Malaysia should adopt the American system. That way we really get to elect our Prime Minister and not some corrupt fools be allowed to choose him.

and i am afraid... no one is doing anything to change it... most of our hands are tied anyway...

Zawi,
Malaysia can take a leaf from the way the US does it.
I'm really baffled by what's going on in Malaysia.
You want to move forward, politically.
And then you have someone like Khairy to pull you back a hundred years.
What he's doing is so retrogressive for the country.
The very fact that he is involved -- even in FAM -- in so many things, at the federal level, is so not right.
After 50 years of independence, I think the system of election should change.
Pak Lah, (I agree with someone in the blogosphere somewhere) has shortchanged the people of Malaysia by allowing his son-in-law and his Oxford buddies to make MAJOR decisions in the country.
I believe when Malaysians voted in the BN in 2004, they did not count on Pak Lah having done what he did, or not doing what he should have been doing.

If the BN continues to be in power, you will see MORE arrogant little napoleons and the rot will continue.

Zewt,

I know that will continue to be the tragedy of Malaysia.

If you vote the BN out, can the opposition promise to change it in the interest of the country?

I don't know. the trouble with politicians is that they cannot be trusted.
BN or Opposition.

A pity. A tragedy.

i think we should all give the oppo a chance... no?

Tragic, indeed. What we need is a revolution. Or a natural disaster to wipe out 90 per cent of the population. My only fear is that the 10 per cent survivors would be "them". But then what would it matter, anyway, since we'll all be among the 90 per cent dead.

On the more positive side, let's look at Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. Close neighbours. All of them have gone through changes, revolutions, New Orders, etc. There's still hope.

zewt,

i think you should vote for the right candidates.
i don't see them in the BN.

Rocky,

Man...that's really dramatic thinking.
If you were a saint (?) that could come true.
A revolution looks good. I am all for peaceful revolution but that is highly unlikely to happen in Malaysia.
You can't even walk for peace!

The political system needs a good overhaul. that is overdue.
Mark my words.... corruption will be secodn nature to politician before you know it. If it is not already their first nature!

Good luck, Malaysia.

There's a new terminology applicable to KJ.

Embedded politicians.

If the front door ain't available, try the bedroom's.

And yer don't need to be an angel to beget another to perpetuate a flawed dynasty.

The malay mindset - treason, betrayal, etc, as in 'durhaka' is anathema. Change this and they'll get somewhere, better. Loyalty is a two way street, hopefully replete with traffic lights for checks and balances.

shar honeybunch,

aaah.,... someone said KJ is the father of Gabriel (Jibreil).

He's one arrogant boy, this KJ.
He is bad bad medicine.
I hear horror stories about him.
No one has nice things to say about the boy.

The day his father-in-law falls from grace (he will not retire gracefully), KJ will know what life is really all about.

but...in all likelihood, and for some strange reason..Malaysia is being punished...so have fun having the boy abusing his position..

aah. embedded. he has taken it to a decadent level.

my sentiments exactly....
